October AP Scoop – Assistant Principal Gilbert

October – Behaviors that Support Learning During the course of the year, I plan to highlight various programs or initiatives at Chaska Middle School East in the AP Scoop section of East Points.  This month, our focus is on Behaviors that Support Learning (BSL) and how our staff are using these indicators to provide feedback on student progress.  As our district has transitioned from “traditional” grading practices to standards-based assessments, teachers also want to provide feedback to students/parents that are not necessarily measured by content standards, like behavior, effort, and being responsible.  Our students at East are also using the Behaviors that Support Learning as themes during advisory time lessons on Thursdays to teach and reinforce these skills.  Our district has identified six Behaviors that Support Learning; Strives for Personal Best, Shows Respectful Behavior, Interacts Collaboratively with Peers, Engages in Learning, Exhibits Responsibility, and Demonstrates... District Office News – October

Facility study says schools need maintenance and to manage growth  E. Carver Co. Schools has been a growing district for decades. While the district opened a new elementary school last year, some of its schools are nearly 50 years old. We’re like a parent in a demographic sandwich, who’s caring for young children and aging parents at the same time. To navigate this situation, the school district conducted a facilities study in early 2018. The School Board recently heard the results that include the projected need for $150 million in maintenance costs over the next 10 years. Below is information to order pictures online during Back to School orientation days.  The website link will be available to parents until midnight Friday, 8/24/18 to complete their online order.  After that, families will wait for their student’s proof sheet with their individual log-in credentials.  There will be order forms available on orientation days.
